I completed my medical degree in 1997 at the University of NSW with BSc(Med)Hons and MBBS Honours Class I and I also have a Masters of Sports Medicine degree from the same university. I completed specialist training to become a Sports and Exercise Physician and a Fellow of the Australasian College of Sports and Exercise Physicians in 2007.

I have been involved in the medical care of Australian athletes at Commonwealth Games, international events in Australia and overseas with the Australian women’s football and cricket teams and have also been team physician for representative rugby league, rugby union and AFL teams.

Currently I am in practice at Narrabeen Sports and Exercise Medicine Centre and am also medical provider for NSW Institute of Sport and Football Federation Australia. I am a Foundation Member of Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine and member of Sports Medicine Australia.

 

What does a Sports and Exercise Physician do?

Assess and diagnose musculoskeletal injuries or medical illnesses that occur in exercising individuals

Devises and coordinates  a comprehensive, multifaceted management program with an emphasis on safe return to activity as well as prevention of recurrence, in conditions such as:

- concussion

- joint injuries

- muscle injuries

- tendon pain eg tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow

- paediatric injuries

Manages medical problems in the context of exercise including :

- asthma

- cardiovascular disease

- diabetes and other metabolic issues

- osteoarthritis

Medical care of a sports team and sports event coverage and follow up including issues such as banned substances in sport

Conservative management of chronic conditions eg knee pain in older patients, viscosupplementation injection for knee osteoarthritis

Diagnosis of unexplained upper or lower limb pain

Help keep older individuals active

 

Uses exercise in the treatment and prevention of disease
