ACMA Media Release regarding COVID-19 vaccination

The Australian Chinese Medical Association (ACMA) has expressed concern that there may be some community reluctance regarding vaccination against Covid-19. The President of ACMA, Dr Stephen Hing, said that the benefits of vaccination far outweigh any risks. This is especially true at present whilst the Delta variant of Covid is spreading in the Sydney population.

If you get the infection and you have already been vaccinated, you are likely to have a very mild illness, and not require hospital admission.  If you are unvaccinated, the consequences of infection could be very serious, even in fit young people.  

Prof Stephen Li, the Chair of the ACMA Community Health Subcommittee encouraged everyone to be vaccinated as soon as possible. There are abundant stocks of Australian-made vaccines available and extra vaccination clinics have been set up throughout Sydney suburbs to make it easy for people to have the injection.

The vaccination is available to everyone without any cost. Even people without Medicare cards can be vaccinated for free, at a government clinic.

ACMA was established in 1990 and has more than 350 members. The Association has been leading in the provision of Covid-19 information since the beginning of the pandemic, both in the Chinese Australian community and also in other CALD communities. (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities)
